What to expect

Classes are relaxed and social. Mel leads simple movements to music, repeated so nobody needs to remember steps. Every part of a class can be done seated, and anyone who wants to stand can, with a chair beside them.

There is no performance, no test and no wrong way to join in. Tapping a foot to the music counts.

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that stay on.
  • Bring a water bottle and any walking aid you use.
  • Carers and family are welcome to join in.

Where and when

The first classes are being set up in Bunbury now. Send Mel a message to hear about the next class, or to be told when new classes start.

Prices and funding

Mel will tell you the price when you ask about a class.

Support at Home or the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. These government-funded aged care programs (arranged through My Aged Care) usually pay for support to get to activities, not the class fee itself. Ask your provider what your plan can include: Mel can give you an invoice or a letter describing the class.

NDIS. For people who joined the NDIS before turning 65, a class like this may fit a plan’s social and community participation budget. Ask Mel how it could work with your plan.

For aged care homes, retirement villages and groups

Mel can bring a class to your residents or members, on site.

Common questions

Do I need to be able to stand?

No. Every part of a class can be done seated, and nobody is asked to do anything they are not comfortable with.

Is this a therapy?

No. Glow Inclusive classes are a social, non-medical activity. They are not a treatment, and they do not replace care from a doctor or health team.

Should we check with a doctor first?

If you have a heart or lung condition, recent surgery, a recent fall or you are unsure, check with your GP or physiotherapist before starting. Tell Mel about anything she should know.

Is it suitable for someone with more advanced dementia?

Often, yes. Music can reach people at every stage. Talk to Mel about your person, and whether a carer should come along.

What if I can’t make every week?

Ask Mel how bookings work for the class you are interested in.

Not sure if it’s right for you?

Ask Mel. She will tell you honestly.
